Oh fuck how did I miss this?!
Is it getting repaired, do you need advice? Looks like a 2000/2001.

Oh it isn’t mine lol, I think it was going to a shop, but they weren’t around long enough for me to ask.
I was surprised you didn’t show up earlier though.

too much wörk wörk.
ugly wing and it hopefully loses that rear V12 badge, but I see about $5000 from a shop to get that back up and running, then about $1000 from a body shop to make it presentable again.
The older Monoblocs look way better...

Experience with the E46 and my wife. She doesn’t understand that cars require maintenance, and maintenance is expensive. Plus my next car really needs to be a sedan with a manual, because I miss shifting for myself and I’m going to need the extra doors for kiddies in the near future.

Japanese/Euro market 300SL/SL320 R129.

Oh? That’s right! They had a manual option. I would just as well pick up an early USDM 320SL/SL320 and just miss the manual part of my requirements. I’ve heard the V6 cars are better drivers anyway.

SL320's were straight 6. The SLs didn’t get a V6 motor until well after the R129s.
The US market also had the manual option, but only up to 1994. Very hard to find here, but importing one might make it easier.
The SL500s were the best balance of power to weight in terms of performance, but the SL320s were the only ones to get manuals, and I bet they aren’t slouches either, just not particularly performance oriented. That’s okay in my book. The SL is not a “sports car” lineage in my opinion, it’s a luxury GT coupe. Top tier cars are certainly supercars though. I don’t care if everyone disagrees with me on that. The SL600, SL70 and SL73 pushed supercars into the modern era in my opinion. The Pagani Zonda is not remembered as an unreliable supercar, neither were it’s source cars.
But back to the original point, if you found a manual R129 SL320, I’d be super impressed. I think Oppo needs one.

I’ve seen other ones priced similarly, and I very much disagree. It’s an extremely good condition example, yes, but it’s not 18.5k worth of car. Cars priced like that are targeted for people who are not knowledgeable of the market value of these cars.
I’ll tell you right now that’s more than my SL600 Sport and all the maintenance I’ve done so far.
Find a private seller, you’ll have an easier time talking them down. The SL class in general is tough to find good examples for reasonable money though. Unfortunately, I’m definitely an outlier compared to most others in similar condition.

Damn - you’re right, I completely forgot.
Also I would love to base my car buying decisions on the Oppotariat but that ain’t happening.
